|About Us|
Underscore Projects is a cultural platform rooted in a physical, community-oriented space that includes multi-functional studios, an artist residency, and a gallery.
Our mission is to support underrepresented artists, particularly those from the Brazilian and Latin American diaspora, by providing opportunities for collaborative artistic creation, mentorship, and public presentation. We also engage children and the wider community through inclusive art education and dialogue.
Underscore Projects strives to connect artists to resources, professional support, and audiences, offering a more supportive approach compared to traditional art spaces.
Located in the heart of Little Portugal, Toronto, we serve as a hub for public exchange - encouraging open conversations, cultural connection, and creative learning that reflect the diverse communities we work with.
Built originally in 1910, the building recently underwent major renovations while preserving its identity and history. Every aspect of the space was thought out to create a welcoming environment for artists and encourage creativity.
Underscore Projects acknowledges that we are located on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 with the Mississaugas of the Credit.
